The Green Party in local politics

The Harrogate and District Green Party grew from the Green Party members in the former Harrogate and North Yorkshire Green Party. All our members are based within the area served by the Harrogate Borough Council. The Harrogate and District Party interacts with the Regional Party for the European and General Elections, for which we run a centralised campaign and press office.

We liaise frequently with both the York and Leeds local parties.

About The Green Party

The Green Party of England and Wales is a growing political movement promoting social and environmental justice through campaigns, direct action and the electoral process.

Elected Greens

Green representation is increasing at all levels of government. After the local and London elections in 2008, the Green Party of England and Wales had more than 100 parish councillors, 120 Principal Authority councillors, two members of the London Assembly and two Members of the European Parliament.

In Scotland, the Scottish Greens have two Members of the Scottish Parliament and since 2007 there has been one Green MLA in Northern Ireland.

Our Principal Authority councillors sit on Borough, District and County Councils all over England and Wales:

Green politics is not just about the environment; it promotes commonsense, sustainable solutions across all social issues. Green politics offer an alternative to the traditional 'grey' economics driven by the quest for continuous growth. In Green politics every individual is valued.
